In order to create a batik fabric, recycled wax is melted and applied to the fabric using a stamped pattern. Edwina carves each stamped design herself in foam, which is easier to repurpose and work with than wood. Together with several women in Accra, Ghana, Edwina and her team always create designs that play on both pattern and layered color in a truly original way. Since we began working together in 2018, we've produced over 40 unique textiles together, keeping them in continuous production since we started. This is my second Patchwork Sleeveless top, but in beautiful Batik Prints! Thank you to the Zuri Sew team! I admire the pattern layout and the detail in the collar and arms. The top was a great example for my niece’s Brownie Troop for their patchwork pillow project.

I always thought of wearing sleeveless shirts in summer but when I got this one I realized I could wear it as a vest over other things with sleeves!

I really love this top for several reasons. I love that it's hand crafted, of course. I also like having strong colours, but I'm not a fan of patchwork and batik in general - often these designs are too busy for my taste. But this top beautifully combines predominantly black, shades of grey and purple, with minor pops of orange and lime, in an interesting abstract way. Love it!
